About AVS : Meet the Doctors

Doctor Of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.)

A veterinarian-in-training first completes college and then goes on to a four-year veterinary post-graduate program. On completion, he or she must pass rigorous exams to obtain a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) degree. This is equivalent to a Medical Doctor (M.D.) degree that your own physician must obtain.

Doctor Of Veterinary Medicine

Interns and Residents: Veterinary interns and residents are D.V.M.'s - already licensed veterinarians - who are working to become specialists in a particular area of veterinary medicine, such as surgery or internal medicine. Internships are one year, and are followed by a 3-year residency.

Diplomate

This is the highest veterinary credential. To become a Diplomate in a veterinary college specialty, a candidate must serve both an internship and a residency under the close supervision of a certified Diplomate. After submitting extensive credentials to the specialty college, the candidate must then pass comprehensive tests and must demonstrate complete proficiency before earning the Diplomate designation.

Certified Veterinary Technician (C.V.T.)

Affiliated Veterinary Specialists has C.V.T.s and assistants to help you and your pet receive the best care. Each is rigorously trained and continually evaluated. You can rely on the competency of all our staff.
