Stem Cell Treatment at AVS
As a new service we are providing stem cell treatment for dogs with chronic orthopedic problems.
Autologous stem cell therapy involves harvesting tissue such as fat from the patient, isolating the stem cells and administering the cells back to the patient. We use stem cells derived from adipose tissue that are capable of differentiating into a variety of tissue types. Intra-articular administration of stem cells significantly decreases pain and improves comfort in the majority of cases. Duration of the benefit from a single injection varies from several months to more than a year.,/p>
Recently, the first randomized, blinded, placebo controlled clinical trial on the effectiveness of stem cell therapy in dogs was published. Dogs treated with stem cell therapy had significantly improved scores for lameness. The compiled scores for lameness, pain and range of motion compared with controlled dogs.
